7. Double click the Alias that you created (MySampleAlias in this article). A pop-up will appear and present the data (Figure 5) per your configuration. Type in your password. Click OK.

8. Now you will face a window (Figure 6) that represents the configured database. On the left-hand pane, you can access the database of your interest, view the tables in the database, the schema of the tables and the contents of the tables.

To execute SQL queries, select the SQL tab, enter your query, select the query and click on the running- man icon. You will see the results of your SQL statement in the resulting pane (illustrated in Figure 7).

Conclusion:

SQuirrel is a productivity enhancer applicable to most popular databases. The configuration process, however, varies from database to database. This article details pertinent information with regard to MySQL. This is the first in a series that will provide nuggets of information (for Java/J2EE developers) currently unavailable on the Net.
