Implement AJAX Functionality Using the jMaki Framework and NetBeans 5.5
by Anghel Leonard
If you're a Java developer and an AJAX technology fan, you've probably heard about the jMaki Framework. Also known as the "JavaScript wrapper," this framework is based on CSS, HTML, Java Script, and, of course Java technologies and is dedicated to the Java Web 2.0 developer, helping to accelerate AJAX development. By default, jMaki comes with a rich set of AJAX widgets: Dojo, DHTML, Spry, Yahoo, Google, Flickr, etc. but it also permits to developers to write their own jMaki widgets.
This framework is specially focused on how to deliver JavaScript to the client and how to communicate with server-side, independently of the used technologies like Java Server Faces (JSF), Java Server Pages (JSP), PHP, etc.
In this article, you will learn:
- How to install the jMaki framework plug-in for NetBeans 5.5
- How to run a jMaki demo application
- How to create a Web project with a jMaki widget
- How to deal with jMaki widget events (write an event handler)
- How to create your own widget
Notice that in all the figures of the article the red word balloons are tasks that must be accomplished, while the blue word balloons are merely informative.
