Artificial Intelligence/Lifeforms
Biomorph Breeder
How about using Java to evolve trees into animal forms? Based on the biomorph concept described in Richard Dawkins' book "The Blind Watchmaker", this applet lets you experiment with breeding artificial creatures called biomorphs, causing them to gradually evolve into a diversity of forms.
Simulated Predator Prey Ecology
This applet creates a simulation of predator/prey ecology. A spinning doughnut displays the predator/prey info, as does a grid at the top left of the applet. This is a great educational use of Java, and the author has even released the source code!
The Virtual FishTank
Computer Museum visitors walk inside a virtual 2,200-square-foot undersea world known as The Virtual FishTank™. The exhibit enables visitors to create and interact with their own virtual fish using, what else...Java!
