MailFork
MailFork 1.0
|
Why MailFork was written (in the words of the developer):
"The paging service that I use (PageMart), provides an e-mail address for my pager. I don't give out this address. When e-mail is sent to my public e-mail address, I would like to be paged with the contents of the message."
Some internet service providers offer this service, but the charges can be hefty, although they do work with a variety of paging services and do not require you to have a computer (with internet access) on all the time.
"I needed a simple piece of software that would regularly check if I had e-mail. If I did, the message would be sent to the pager's e-mail address. The message would not be deleted from the mail server, so that I could read it later at my computer."
This is what MailFork does.
MailFork also includes a Java package called ASMail that can be re-used for other internet mail applications. You may download the entire Mailfork package, (which contains the source code). You will need the jar utility found in the JDK to expand a file within the download zip file.

Usage: MailFork is a Java application, not an applet. That means it can run on your computer, not your Web page. MailFork uses the protocols POP3 to read mail and SMTP to send mail. To run MailFork you will need to download Javasoft's JDK 1.1.1 or later.
