Java Bytes features items of interest for novices and experts, as well as the rank beginner who just wants an easy way to get a few applets on their sites.

wingS
WingS is a servlet development framework. It uses the models, events and event listeners from Swing. Most Swing components have a wingS pendant with a similar API and behavior. Like in Swing, the components are arranged in a hierarchy of containers, whose root container is hooked to a frame. Application development with wingS is very similar to application development with Swing. All modern concepts, like MVC, events and listeners and high level components are available. 05.31.02

aWebCalendar
aWebCalendar is a JDK 1.3 application which produces a JDK 1.1 calendar applet. Use it to create customized calendars for your website. The calendar can contain pictures. Events can display popup text. The calendar, events, and popup text can all be printed on one sheet of paper. 05.30.02

AstroFTP
AstroFTP is a FTP program or FTP client. There are more useful features than just uploading and downloading files and directories. Commands like change CHMODs, rename, delete, ASCII uploads and create folders are supported. There is a site manager that can be used to save information about FTP sessions. You can select files to be displayed in a fileviewer. FTP directory lists can be saved as textfiles. 05.29.02

JDK Commander V4
JDK Commander is a freeware alternative to a commercial Java IDE. It provides a very easy-to-use graphical user interface to Sun's JDK for Microsoft Windows, supporting edit/compile/debug/run (plus jar and javadoc) for main programs and applets, also in a project context. 05.28.02

JPhotoBrush Image Editing Tool
This is an image enhancement and editing application written in Java 1.3. Some important features of this application are the ability to open multiple images as in case of MDI (using JInternalFrame), loading and saving 24-bit gif/jpg and bmp, Brightness/contrast controls, grayscaling, color invert, filters: blur/smooth, sharpen, edge detections, emboss, erode, dilate, noise reduction and generation and cool effects like-diffuse, mosaic, venetian blinds, buttonize, solarize, scramble,wav etc. 05.23.02

POptionPane.java
Provided by:Steve Kelsey A helpful extension to JOptionPane. Allows setting mnemonics, default buttons and having custom input fields. Includes methods for Errors, Warnings, Questions, Information and multiple choice style OptionPanes. 05.20.02

RTF to XML converter
RTF2FO converts your RTF documents to XML ones in line with latest W3C specifications for XSL FO formatting semantics. Using different XSL FO rendering tools, you can easily present these converted files in different output formats such as PDF, HTML, PostScript, etc. Moreover, RTF2FO allows you to build application forms, invoices, orders, and other templates to be filled-in on-line on your web site. JDBPlex

JArtifex

JProfiler
JProfiler is a fully dynamic profiler based on the Java virtual machine profiling interface (JVMPI). It is targeted at J2EE and J2SE applications, and features CPU profiling, memory profiling, thread profiling, and VM telemetry information. 05.09.02

OpenThunderGraph
ThunderGraph is another java charting library intended to draw 2D graphs. Additionally, it contains a package that presents awt and swing components implementing zoomable, scrollable and 'hintable' graph. Written for JDK 1.1+, it may be used in MS IE applets as well as in servlets and standalone applications. 05.07.02

Atlassian JIRA
JIRA is a J2EE-based issue tracking and project management application. It handles all kinds of issues (including bugs, features, enhancements, and tasks) and can be used for bug tracking, development help, project management, or group task cataloging. JIRA is free for Open Source projects and non-profit organisations. 05.06.02

Prism Simulation
In this Java Applet refraction resp. total reflexion of a light ray in a prism is simulated. White light, monochromatic light, various line spectra and several glass types can be selected and the prism can be rotated. 05.03.02

TCS - Tree Control System
The TCS is a powerful device to generate menus and control user interaction with numerous configuration and layout possibilities including the dynamic real time modification and control of the client. 05.02.02

Anthill Controlled Build Tool
Anthill is tool that ensures a controlled build process and promotes the sharing of knowledge within an organization. Anthill performs a checkout from the source repository of the latest version of a project before every build and tags the repository with a unique build number after every build. Anthill also automatically updates a project intranet site with artifacts from the latest build. Many updates in version 1.2. 05.01.01
