Conclusion
The JBI is a new JSR proposed by Sun Microsystems as part of the
JSR – 208. The JSR is now in the early draft review and is
soliciting comments from the public. The specification is in the
early stages and might take a while before anything concrete
comes to the market. The specification is proposed to be part of
the javax.jbi package.
A few noteworthy participants of the specification are Novell,
Oracle and SAP. The withdrawal of IBM and BEA from the
specification is a huge setback for the acceptance of the
specification. Sun plans to adopt the specification by next year
and hopes companies like IBM and BEA will join the specification
if it is successful.
The specification leaves a number of issues like administration
of the JBI environment, standards on reliability, and Delivery
channel details open. The specification leads hope to fill these
gaps after the public review is complete. The specification is
expecting user feedback on a number of issues in the
specification. The specification is another step forward in the
direction of having interoperable systems. The adoption of this
specification will reduce the dependency of clients on
proprietary extensions to create custom integration solutions.
