Articles : The Java Community Process :

Conclusion:

The Java community process is a promising idea from Sun to make the Java a publicly acceptable and open language. The overwhelming response to the idea can be seen at the rate at which JSR's have been proposed and the increasing numbers of the members in the JCP. In November 2001 the following members became part of the JCP: EC Apache Software Foundation, Apple, BEA Systems, Borland, Caldera Systems, Cisco Systems, Compaq, Ericsson, Fujitsu Limited, HP, IBM, Insignia Solutions, IONA Technologies, Macromedia, Matsushita Electric Industrial (Panasonic), Motorola, Nokia, Oracle, PalmSource, Inc., Philips, RIM, Siemens AG, Sony, Texas Instruments, and Zucotto Wireless. Apart from these there is an individual member Doug Lea who represents the research and educational communities. At the time of writing this article the JCP has over 500 individuals and company participants. Companies like IBM, and Apache are not entirely happy with the JCP as it rests a majority of the power with Sun. Sun is working towards accommodating the demands of these organizations and still hold its say over Java. Lets hope this community process evolves itself into a powerful process that can help augment the power of Java and also help to create a robust and open Java community.
