Installing and Using the Java Servlet SDK
Running The Servlet Examples
Now that the JSWDK Web Server is up and running, you can look at some of the examples that are running.
To see examples on a web server running on your local machine, you need to be able to address your machine as a URL inside a web browser.
It so happens that there is a very cool convention that allows you to do this.
By default, your local machine is called "localhost".
If you prefer using IP addresses, "127.0.0.1" also refers to your local machine by convention.
The port that the server runs on by default is 8080.
Thus, two possible sample URLs would be "http://localhost:8080/" or "http://127.0.0.1:8080/".
The figure below shows what the sample URL should look like in a browser.
The link to run the servlet examples is on the front page along with links to copious documentation about Servlets and JSPs.
In addition, when you go to the examples, you can view the example source code as well as run them.
