This is in no way a well-written Java solution, but it should give you the basic idea....
Test.java
import java.awt.Label;
import java.awt.TextField;
import java.awt.Button;
import java.awt.Event;
import java.net.URL;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.DataInputStream;
import java.applet.Applet;
public class Test extends Applet {
private Label nameLabel;
private TextField nameValue;
private Label streetAddrLabel;
private TextField streetAddrValue;
private Button submitButton;
public void init() {
setLayout(null);
nameLabel = new Label("Name");
nameLabel.reshape(10,10,100,25);
add(nameLabel);
nameValue = new TextField();
nameValue.reshape(110,10,100,25);
add(nameValue);
streetAddrLabel = new Label("Street Address");
streetAddrLabel.reshape(10,40,100,25);
add(streetAddrLabel);
streetAddrValue = new TextField();
streetAddrValue.reshape(110,40,100,25);
add(streetAddrValue);
submitButton = new Button("Send Request");
submitButton.reshape(110,70,100,25);
add(submitButton);
}
public boolean handleEvent(Event evt) {
if (evt.target == submitButton &&
evt.id == Event.ACTION_EVENT) {
try {
String url = getCodeBase() +
"cgi-bin/test.cgi?fname=" +
nameValue.getText() +
"&strAddr=" +
streetAddrValue.getText();
URL cgiScript = new URL(url);
System.out.println("URL: " + url);
DataInputStream dis = new
DataInputStream(cgiScript.openStream());
String line = dis.readLine();
while ((line != null)) {
System.out.println(line);
line = dis.readLine();
}
}
catch (IOException e){
System.out.println("Error reading CGI: " +
e.getMessage());
}
}
return super.handleEvent(evt);
}
Test.html
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Test Applet</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<APPLET CODE = "Test.class" WIDTH = "600" HEIGHT = "400">
</APPLET>
</BODY>
</HTML>
Test.cgi
#!/usr/local/bin/perl
use CGI;
$CGI = new CGI();
print $CGI->header();
print $CGI->param('fname');
print $CGI->param('strAddr');
}
