Introduction
------------
- What is Spam?
Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message,
in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise
choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for
dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services.
Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are
paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.
- Dealing with spam
Most users come across spam or junk email every day. Junk mail is
more than an annoyance. It is an invasion of your time and privacy.
You didn't ask for it. You don't want it. Your replies to "have your
name removed" seem to go nowhere, or worse end up coming back to you
as undeliverable. Why should you waste your time (and money)
downloading junk messages? With JEM around, there is no need to
"accept" junk email as a "normal" occurence.
If you want to eliminate spam as quickly and easily as possible, JEM
is the tool of choice. No other software is as simple yet easy to set
up and use. Of course, you can continue spending a lot of time
reading and deleting those unwanted messages. Or, you could use JEM.
Download JEM now, and see it in action. You can try it free for as
long as you like. My guess is that you will want to keep it.
- How it works
Before you can use JEM you must configure it to connect to your pop3
account by specifying your user name, password and pop3 server. You
can also specify a list of email addresses.
JEM has two different modes of opeartion which make it unique among
other mail filtering programs.
* You can configure JEM to "mark email from specified addresses as
junk". In this case JEM will scan incoming email to find if the
"From" header of any message matches an address specified in the
list. If a match is found, the corresponding message will be marked
as junk. You can also specify any other message(s) as junk beside
the ones already marked. JEM automatically adds any such address to
its list of addresses. If you wish, you may select to download a
message from an address which was previously blocked. After you are
done making your selections you can delete the junk messages by
hitting the delete button.
* Alternately you may specify the addresses where you wish to receive
email from. All messages that do not come from any of the specified
addresses will be marked as junk. You may make changes as in
previous mode and then delete the junk by pressing the delete
button.
When you are done clearing your mailbox JEM will automatically
launch your email client.

Known Problems
--------------
- While you are offline any attemp to connect to pop server will result
in an "UnknownHostException". With JEM still running, when you
connect to the internet and again try to connect to your pop server,
you will still receive the same exception.
Fix: To over come this problem specify the IP address of your pop
server in Edit->Configuration->POP3 Server rather then the domain
name.
